SSI Specialty: Night Diving – Discover the Ocean After Dark
Diving at night is unlike anything you’ve experienced during the day. The sea is calmer, the beaches are quiet, and the underwater world transforms into something magical. With just your dive light, your buddies, and the sound of your own breathing, you’ll explore the ocean in a completely new way.
The SSI Night Diving Specialty teaches you how to dive safely and confidently in low-light conditions—while introducing you to the mysterious beauty of marine life after sunset.
A Different World After Dark
At night, familiar dive sites become entirely different environments. Many fish rest motionless and allow you to approach closely, while nocturnal creatures like squid, moray eels, and shrimp emerge from their hiding places. You’ll notice plankton sparkling in the beam of your torch—and when we briefly turn off our lights during the dive, you’ll see it glow around you with every movement.
What You Will Learn
This course includes 3 night dives over the course of 2 to 3 nights and covers essential techniques for safe and enjoyable night diving. You’ll learn:
- How to prepare and adjust your gear for nighttime conditions

- Safety procedures and how to stay calm and focused
You’ll also practice buddy positioning, light handling, and managing your senses in darkness—skills that increase your confidence and awareness underwater.
