SSI Specialty: Enriched Air Nitrox – Dive Longer, Recover Faster
If you want to make the most of your dive time—especially on multiple dives per day—Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) is the key. This popular specialty allows you to extend your no-decompression limits, reduce surface intervals, and enjoy safer, more efficient dives.
Even though the course doesn’t involve diving, the knowledge you gain will significantly enhance your future dive experiences.
What Is Nitrox?
Nitrox, or Enriched Air, is a breathing gas mixture with a higher oxygen content than normal air, typically between 32% and 40%. Because it contains less nitrogen, your body absorbs less nitrogen during a dive—allowing for longer bottom times and shorter surface breaks.
This makes Nitrox especially valuable for:
- Liveaboard trips with multiple dives per day
- Deep dives, where nitrogen exposure is greater
- Older or fatigue-sensitive divers, looking for more comfort and less exhaustion
What You Will Learn
This theory-only course takes approximately 3 hours and is ideal for divers of all levels. During the session, you’ll learn:
- How to plan and safely conduct dives with Nitrox
- How to analyze oxygen content using an O₂ analyzer
- How to adjust dive computers and tables for different oxygen mixes
- Equipment considerations and oxygen exposure limits
- How to identify, label, and verify Nitrox cylinders
By the end of the course, you’ll be certified to dive with Enriched Air Nitrox—opening up new possibilities for longer, more comfortable dives around the world.
