The SSI Underwater Navigation Specialty is designed to teach you how to find your way with precision and confidence—without relying on luck or guesswork.
What You Will Learn
This course includes 3 dives over 2 days and focuses on the practical application of underwater orientation techniques. You will learn to:
- Use a compass accurately and effectively in real dive scenarios
- Rely on natural navigation cues like sunlight, rock formations, and water movement
- Estimate distance, direction, and time underwater
- Navigate complex patterns such as squares and triangles
- Relocate specific points like your entry site, anchor line, or an underwater object
We’ll also help you develop your observation skills and spatial awareness—critical for staying oriented in unfamiliar environments.
For Junior Divers Too
The SSI Junior Navigation Specialty is also available for certified Junior Open Water Divers aged 10 and up. It offers the same essential techniques, adapted for younger divers in a safe, supportive learning environment.
