Special Course Underwater Scooter

SSI Specialty: Underwater Scooter (DPV) – Cover More Ground with Less Effort

Diving with an underwater scooter, also known as a Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV), is not only incredibly fun—it also gives you access to more distant or demanding dive sites with far less physical effort. Whether you’re fighting a current, conserving air, or just want to explore more in less time, a DPV is the perfect tool.

The SSI Scooter Specialty teaches you how to operate a DPV safely, efficiently, and with full control—adding a whole new dimension to your dive adventures.

Why Dive with a Scooter?

Using a DPV allows you to:

  • Reach sites that are normally too far to swim
  • Extend your dive time by conserving energy and air
  • Navigate current-prone areas more easily
  • Add variety and excitement to your dives

This makes scooter diving not only enjoyable but also highly practical—especially on larger reefs, wall dives, or when exploring multiple sites in one session.

What You Will Learn

This course includes 2 dives in one day and covers:

  • How to safely enter and exit the water with a scooter
  • Proper descent and ascent techniques while using a DPV
  • Control and maneuvering, including turns, depth changes, and speed adjustment
  • Battery care and maintenance (e.g., charging, storage, and replacement)
  • How to handle a DPV in case of malfunction
  • Basic buddy towing techniques and safe distance protocols

Our instructors will guide you through both the technical skills and the best practices to ensure you enjoy your scooter dives safely and confidently.

By the end of the course, you’ll not only be certified to dive with an underwater scooter—you’ll also have discovered one of the most exciting ways to explore the ocean.
