Hidden Gem with Schooling Fish
Just a short distance from the well-known Abades Bay lies Abades Mountain, a lesser-known and rarely crowded dive site that feels like a true hidden gem. Thanks to its secluded location, we often have the entire site to ourselves.
Access is via a sandy track that leads away from the busy bay. Once there, we can park directly by the water and enter the sea from a small beach. The descent is gentle and step-like, taking us down to 12–20 meters, where a striking volcanic underwater landscape awaits.
This site is especially known for its large schools of fish, including shimmering golden Roncadores and curious barracudas, often forming dense clouds through which we can dive. The untouched seabed, shaped by lava flows, adds to the unique atmosphere of the site.
Abades Mountain is a great choice for divers who enjoy peaceful surroundings, vibrant marine life, and the feeling of discovering something truly off the beaten path.
